Okay, I'l be the first to admit that the above picture has makeup and been "photoshopped" for the flawless look your're staring at. No my skin is not blemish free neither is it pores free. But, I'll also be the first to tell you that I have a really beautiful skin (not that I'm tooting me horn, it's just fact!) but the idea of flawless just doesn't sit well with me! People often stop me on the street to give compliment on my smooth, acne-free face and I receive the compliments with smile. I'm also always excited to share my daily regimen.
I recently joined Instagram (after several persuasion from friends...LOL) and I'm often surprised by the tornado of advertisements, videos, tik-toks, I've seen with "Flawless", "pore-less", smoother than baby butt faces that almost tempts me to purchase whatever products these "influencers" are pushing down my throat to buy!
A quick side note:
Before you buy any product, please do at least a 20 minutes research on where it's coming from, what's inside and why the product is the BEST fit for your skin or life for that matter!
My daily facial regimen consists of very little because I am a firm believer in using as little product on your face as possible. Our skin is as much an important organ as our heart! But people don't realize that with the way they pack on so much products on their skin to achieve a certain look. Sooner or later, the only skin you have will run into trouble just like if you packed your heart with too much unhealthy.
Here are 5 of my beliefs for having and maintaining a "flawless" skin:
1. Less is more:
Our skin is a breathing organ just like the kidney filters the body from the inside, the skin filters the body from the outside. How often do you bombard your kidneys with products? For starters, if your kidney is overworked, having to filter so much, there is likelihood of failure. The same goes for the skin, hence the need to be mindful of not only the types of product on the skin but how much product is introduced to the skin on a daily basis.
2. Make-up is not for everyday use: I'll probably get eye rolls for this one. And someone probably said, "she can say that because she doesn't have acne or spots or blemishes." And that person would be partially right. I do have spots, I have blemishes and I do "struggle" with occasional acne but I consider them very minor issues compared to what some might experience. Despite that, I realized that when I wore less makeup, my skin took deeper breathes because my pores were free to breath. Having makeup on everyday, limits how well the skin can breathe.
3. Don't Leave Your Skin Bare: Someone just read that and is saying, "Didn't this b* just say don't wear makeup and now she's saying don't leave your skin bare???? Yes ma'am I did. What I mean by don't leave your skin bare is, Moisturize! Moisturize!! Moisturize!!! I can't stress this enough. The earlier you start, your skin will thank you later. For some, it's easier to find the right kind of moisturizer and for others, a visit to your dermatologist might do the trick. Another side note: You do not need to spend a ton of $$$ on moisturizer before you achieve your desired result. I literally use a $4 nightly moisturizer, added a few drops of lavender essential oil and my skin thanks me all day and all night! I use the same moisturizer day and night.
4. Deep Clean Once A Week: Once a week mud mask does the wonders for me. Others swear by a "chemical peel" which I haven't tried because I don't know what "chemical" is in the peel. I'd rather facial scrub, mud mask and moisturize than "peel". But to each his own.
5. Hydrate! Hydrate!! Hydrate!!! Water is literally the fluid that keeps life growing! ( I totally just came p with that as I was writing...genius!!!) Anyways, drinking lots of water not only hydrates your inside, flushes out toxins, helps your kidneys function better, drinking fluids regularly (especially water) keeps your skin supple, unclogged, nourished and looking young.
Take away: Our skin has the ability to replenish itself but what and how we "feed" it matters a lot.
Happy Summer...enjoy tour "flawless" skin!
