A few years ago, I had the opportunity of traveling to Nigeria to work on a maternal health project. After visiting several clinics, hospitals and traditional birth attendants, I saw firsthand where women delivered their babies and I was concerned about the increased risk of infections, excessive bleeding, etc. These are factors that increase maternal mortality. As I stood in those birthing rooms, I realized that giving birth to my children in a clean, sterilized hospital room was a privilege. This shouldn't be. Every pregnant woman has the Right to deliver her baby and expect to survive. Here are some pictures of these birthing rooms:
When you donate to purchase products for women and their newborns, you join the community of women and mothers raising their voices and hands to save other mothers during childbirth. Surviving Childbirth is a Right not a Privilege. If you are interested in supporting this project, please send an email to our team and we will get back to you on how you can support this mission:
- We want to create Hospital Bags that will provide disposable bed-sheets for labor and delivery, swaddle clothes for newborn, post-partum-sanitary pads for new mothers, sterilizing wipes, fetal-doppler, diapers, gloves, wipes, hand sanitizer, baby clothes, breast-bumps, formulas, ointments, toys and so much more.
- We want to financially support and encourage pregnant women to register in hospitals and clinics where they can receive some professional care rather than seek services with Traditional Birth Attendants or churches. Many times, these women seek alternative care due to lack of funds and hospital requirements such as gloves, sanitary pads, etc.
- We want to employ and train recent graduates to become Community Health Workers/Community Case Managers who will conduct regular home visits and much more to each registered pregnant woman.
